Root Canal

What is a root canal treatment?

When the blood or nerve supply of the tooth is stopped or infected due to decay, the treatment of the root canal is carried out to remove the infection.

A root canal treatment is needed to stop the infection. If the infection spreads, it may lead to an abscess which may cause the tooth to be taken out.

What does it involve?

The treatment of the root canal is carried out with the aim of removing all the infections within. It can be a time-consuming process that demands at least 2 visits to your dentist.

In the first visit, the infected pulp is removed while making sure that any further abscesses are not present in the tooth. The root canal is then cleaned and filled with a temporary filling.

After a few days on the second visit, the tooth is checked to clear the infections. If the infection is cleared, the tooth is filled permanently.

Will it be safer for the tooth?

Yes, it is completely safer for the tooth. With the help of modern technologies, the procedure of root canal treatment doesn’t even cause pain.

Aftercare

A cap/crown if required should be placed over the root canal treated tooth and should be treated like any other tooth. Remember to brush it at least once a day with fluoride toothpaste. Visit your dentist for regular check-ups.
